Almost an entire year ago I had the honor of co-planning my close friend Mandy’s shower. At the time, I had every intention to document everything and blog about how you can have an awesome and affordable shower. Something happened… I am not sure what- and here we are a year later. I did eventually right?
We couldn’t spend too money so pretty much everything we needed I found in my own house. The original plan was to have the shower under the trees with lightened paper lanterns. However, we ended up getting the shower later than expected so it was dark and the ground under the tree was way uneven soooo we learned you have to make adjustments! We ended up moving to the porch which worked out great.
Going for a natural rustic look. Did we make it? We wanted the feel of a dinner/dessert party- moving away from the crazy lingerie college showers of the past (they were crazy, but oh so fun). We played a “How well do you know Mandy and Kory?” game complete with awesome little prizes.
I could only get these candles to stay lit for 5 minuets. It was super windy. Many adjustments had to be made that night- but that was a great lesson- be prepared for everything!
-Clear glass, mismatched plates and glass from my stock at home.
-Mismatched white candles leftover from my wedding.
-Mason jars and green vases for the flowers.
-You would never believe it but those flowers… are from Wal-Mart! Babies Breath and these purple wild flower looking things. Love!
-From my home stash, white linen napkins, knotted in the middle.
-Chunks of wood were originally to add to the rustic feel, but they ended up being great to hold things down in the wind.
-Tablecloth is actually a duvet cover I bought forever ago from Urban Outfitters.
-Last but not least, cute little name cards with hand-made ribbon flowers attached to the plates with clothespins.
The only thing we paid for:
-Cupcakes and mini cookies
-Flowers at Wal-Mart
-Prizes for game
-Bath salts for party favors
-Supplies for the drinks
All rang up to be not to much over $100! Split between five bridesmaids, that is pretty good!
Your table always looks better when it is filled with your friends
Rachel brought these amazing cupcakes all the way from Austin. We decided on just having desserts at the shower so these cupcakes and mini cookies were all we needed. For drinks we had cherry lemonade- basically pink lemonade with cherries and cherry juice added. So easy and so good.
For opening gifts we moved to picnic blankets. You cant see it, but down to the left is a river that the yard backs down to!
The post is a lot shorter and less detailed than I originally had planned, but hopefully someone will get some ideas/inspiration from it. Most importantly, you don’t have to spend a fortune to have an awesome shower!
Happy almost one year Mandy!!

It was an AWESOME shower!!
Thanks for your work on it as well as the trip down memory lane I got from this post. I’ve been wishing you were closer so you can help me decorate this house now. I miss you!
